How Does Fiverr Stack Up?

Fiverr Questions Answered

Let Me Tell You About Fiverr!

Fiverr started as a gig site where people would perform quick gigs for $5 — hence the name. It has grown up a bit in recent years, with some freelancers offering services in the hundreds and thousands of dollars. It still reigns supreme for low-cost freelance services and is a freelancer focused site where specific skill sets are highlighted and marketed.

How much does Fiverr cost?

Like many freelance sites, Fiverr is free to sign up for both buyers and sellers, yay for free. Everyone has to pay their bills though, so Fiverr takes a commission for using the platform. For sellers (freelancers) Fiverr takes 20 percent no matter how big or small the gig. That can mean for an actual $5 gig you only make $4, which seems small until you scale it up to the hundreds of dollar gigs. My main complaint is they don’t scale back the percentage for big jobs, paying over a hundred dollars as a fee for taking a job can hurt! For buyers the fee is a bit less — for orders up to $40 they charge $2 and over $40 it’s 5% of the order.

To transfer to a US bank account, they take $1 per transaction, for a non-US bank account, that amount goes up to $3 with a 2% currency conversion fee.

How easy is Fiverr to use?

The website is easy to navigate for both freelancers and those looking to hire and looks good to boot. It’s a pretty simple site design and I like simple! The rules and terms of service are where it gets more complicated but if I can understand them, you can too! It is also very saturated with freelancers offering all kinds of services so it can be overwhelming to know who to hire or to stand out. As a way to help them stand out, Pro level freelancers are those who have been vetted by Fiverr and are sporadically evaluated to make sure they still meet the standard. This helps buyers when they’re trying to find someone they can trust to do quality work.

How easy is it to setup Fiverr?

t’s very easy to set up — just a few questions about your services if you’re a freelancer and you’re off and running. To really attract buyers however, some effort is required, it’s a pretty crowded marketplace and Sasquatches don’t like crowds (there’s a reason we’re rarely seen). If you’re a buyer it’s also simple, you can even browse the offerings without signing up, unlike some other sites.

What is the Quality of support at Fiverr?

Fiverr has 24/7 live chat support where they can answer all of your questions, including technical difficulties. They also have an extensive blog you can search to see if your question has already been answered before you get online with them.

Is Fiverr better for freelancers or people looking to hire freelancers?

Given the fact that it is a seller focused platform you’d think that it would be better for freelancers but it’s that quality that makes it better for those looking to hire. There are many talented people on the site and the intense competition has led to rock-bottom prices in some areas. If you’re a seller, you really have to be able to create a winning profile to attract clients but some people do make a living on the site. Since it is truly a gig marketplace, it isn’t meant for long term work — in fact a job that lasts more than 30 days is a violation of the user agreement so keep that in mind too!

Should You Use Fiverr?

This platform is best for those who have a particular talent they want to market, like photoshop editing or blog article writing, and that know how to stand out from the crowd. If you’re just starting out, ruthless competition can drive the acceptable price of a service down so it can be a bit difficult to make a good living. If you’re looking to hire someone for a specific task, Fiverr is great for the selection and for the low cost of many of its listed services.
