How to Tell If Someone Likes You

Most of us have been in a situation where we thought that somebody liked us, only to be wrong. And despite how common of an occurrence it is, we’re all left wishing that we could run for the hills and hide out our embarrassment. I can do that – after all, it’s one of the best perks of being a sasquatch – but I wouldn’t want you to! So, here’s a guide on how to tell if someone likes you so that you never have to worry about being wrong again.

Can you just sense when someone likes you?

There is no way to learn how to tell if someone likes you with 100% certainty, but there are a few universal techniques that can help. Despite our best efforts to hide our emotions, our bodies can’t lie as well as we can.

Oxytocin, a hormone involved in social bonding and love, gets released in all sorts of crushing situations. This can lead to us subconsciously trying to hold longer eye contact or engage in physical touch with the people we’re interested in. Look out for these qualities when you’re wondering if you can just sense when someone likes you.

Attention is another universal indicator of whether someone likes you.  Sure, we all want to make others feel special by paying attention to them. But if someone is going out of their way to make sure that you feel seen and heard, then there’s a good chance they want to be more than friends.

How do you know a man likes you?

Men and women act differently when trying to express romantic feelings. One of the most prominent signs that a man likes you is that he changes his behaviour when you’re around.

Try to notice how he is when he is with male friends or platonic female friends. If there’s a shift when you enter the room, you’ll know there is a good reason.

Plenty of men also tend to get more generous around the people they are interested in. This can translate to them trying to buy you things (like offering to pay for your coffee) or acts of service (like helping you when your car won’t start.) People like to feel helpful, especially if they’re helping out somebody they are into.

How do you know a woman likes you?

While men tend to be more obvious with their actions, women will be more open with their words- even if it’s not you that she’s talking to. One of the fastest indicators to know if a woman likes you is by finding out if she’s talked about you to her friends and family.  If you run into her and her friends and they recognize your name, then you might have a better shot than you thought.

Women also tend to give more compliments to the folks they are interested in. If she’s giving you more compliments than anybody else or brings up excuses just to talk about your hobbies and talents, then take it as a sign.

Finally, women tend to have more open body language when talking to somebody they like. Things like keeping her torso open and her arms to her sides or in her pockets, rather than crossed, are all good for your chances.

What to do when you can’t tell if someone likes you?

How do you tell if someone likes you but is hiding it? Sometimes we’re shy with our crushes and don’t know how to tell them how we feel. This can make it tricky when you’re trying to learn how to tell if someone likes you. While all of our indicators mentioned above might help, there is always one guaranteed way to find out: ask them!

Plenty of lovebirds waste time wondering if their crush likes them, and sometimes we wait too long and lose our chance. There is no shame in being honest with someone and asking if they like you. Be upfront with your feelings, and you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that they feel the same! Life is too short to miss opportunities because you’re too afraid to ask, so just ask!

As much as we might try to hide it, feelings like love can be hard to avoid. Try noticing what you do when you have a crush on somebody and look for these signs when talking to others. And remember, if you can’t tell if someone likes you, then take matters into your own hands and ask. What’s the worst that can happen? You certainly won’t need to join me and the other sasquatches in hiding.
